First of all they have fathers, husbands and brothers, so why do they need to vote? We men can look after the complicated stuff. If they got the vote, what next? They’ll want to be politicians, lawyers, could you imagine that? Then of course there is the argument that if women became involved in politics, they would stop marrying, having children, and the human race would die out. You also have the the fact that there are no women bankers or merchants so what have they contributed to society? Babies and that’s it, they can keep a house clean, but some of them show a very poor performance with that simple task.
There you have some arguments from 100 years ago. Yup, just 100 years ago that was the general consensus of the male population and although we think times have changed, believe it or not, that is still the consensus of some males even more so in some third world countries. But some women learned to fight back. 
Love that photo, I believe it is Edith Garrud. But, it is getting better, I think? Who would you choose after 100 years of women being allowed to vote? Hmmm? Me? I’d go for Michelle everytime:-)

Well hopefully in time we’ll see those areas of the world, currently still living in the dark ages 😉 😉 catching up with those of us who recognise equality as the only means of moving forward. Still a great way to go, for sure!
I see so many protesting these days, at life’s inequalities; not only politically, but in all manner of ways, Charlie. Both men and women, in many areas of the world, are tired of the status quo.
Here’s to change! Change that brings both men and women greater benefit… 🙂

Wow! 💡enlightening. Now I know why women weren’t allowed to vote. I also find the statement that some women are bad at doing chores interesting. That single point proves that chores are like everything else in life, you either like to do them or you don’t. It’s not a woman’s job. Anyways it was a cultural thing, Matriarchal cultures historically did not support this view.♥️

Yes we do and in 1918 it was only for women over 30, it wasn’t until 1928 that women were allowed to vote at 21. I suppose it’s better than Saudi Arabia where they waited until 2015, but the Saudi’s aren’t big on elections anyway 😀

I was just drifting away to simpler times and thinking of how much better things used to be when you brought me back to earth.
Ah well, I suppose I’ll have to get used to the 21st century, though when you see what the Americans and Russians have done with their right to vote (and as for the UK and is referendums…) you really have to wonder if democracy is all it’s cracked up to be.
I’d be quite happy to invite Michelle Obama to come to the UK and take over as Dictator. As the O’Bamas are actually from Ireland she should fit in nicely. (See link for Barack O’Bama song)

The reasons that were mentioned a 100 years ago does sound absurd, but the reasons, incidents and situations today are sometimes even more weirder. From comments on women “forgetting their place in society” (because she is taking on more challenges everyday) to women who suffer violence and discrimination at home, work and elsewhere mentally and physically are rising at alarming rates. Many things and many wonderful people are behind a great motion of change which I hope will make things better!
