All this palaver over the fuel price, as my dear American cousins would say. “OMG!”
At least ten people in the last three days have said how great it is that fuel has come down at last. 10p a litre woohoo!
To quote the colonists again.
“Gee your dumb!”
Diesel in the UK at the beginning of January was 138p a litre. It then went up and up and up until it was 149p in April/May. Now here is the little magic trick. Don’t blink, you’ll miss it.
They (yes back to the italic conspirators) tell us fuel is now 10p a litre cheaper than it was. Because, they say, crude oil has dropped by 20%. What they don’t tell us; is that the 20% drop is on it’s January price of $98 a barrel and crude oil is now $78 a barrel.
So why is diesel the same price as it was in January?
You just know that they will tell us that they had already bought all this crude oil at the more expensive price. Funny that, because when there was an impending tanker strike they said that it would be catastrophic because they don’t carry a huge back up of fuel anymore.
I’ve got a great idea. I’m going to tell my boss that I am putting my hourly rate up by £5 an hour from today. In December I’ll drop it by £3 an hour. He’ll be over the moon that he’s saving £3 an hour.
